Where Is the Ecm Relay 1991 Chevy Camaro

I don't drive my 96Z all that often and replaced the fuel pump about 3k miles ago with a Walbro unit, now the engine won't start and I have no fuel pressure. Is the fuel pump connected to a relay or a fuse that I can check? It seem crazy that the pump would fail.

    The relay is here:

You should hear the fuel pump when you first key on the car. The fuel pump relay fuse is #3. Its the same fuse as the PCM. If it were blown the PCM won't work either.

There's a Fuel Pump Test point under the hood, passenger side, in the harness just above the PCM. It is a direct line to the fuel pump, bypassing the fuse & relay. If you jumper it to 12v, it will run the pump, while checking the fuel pressure.
Not Dave and Z28/Ken like this.

That kind of information is why this forum is so useful.

I found that #3 fuse was blown and replaced it with a new one and then turn the key to the start position and no fuel pressure. I took out the fuel pump relay and brought it work to have one of our electricians tested it and he said it works fine. He also asked if my car might have some kind of shock switch where by it kills the power running to the pump in case of an accident. He said there should be some switch possibly up under the dash. I said I don't know so need to ask you guys if we do have this or have you heard of something like this?

Check your fuel filter. A clog filter will give you same symptom. When its removed, put a piece of hose on the input side, and try blowing through it. Air should flow through it easily, with little or no resistance. What did the screen on the pump look like? If it was black, chance are the filter is clogged.

Did you try testing the pump using 12v at the "Fuel Pump Prime" connector?

Just where is the fuel pump prime connector?
  8. timnfxr

Passenger side, in the harness just above the PCM.

I'll check it tonight when I get home but no ones knows of a SHOCK switch that will shut off the fuel pump in case of an accident?
  10. timnfxr

None on the 4th Gens. Probably not need since the tank is pretty far inboard.

I found and connected up to the fuel pressure prime wire with a lead to the battery and nothing. It's interesting that on my 96 the little wire is right there sticking out of the wire bundle and I never knew what it was for. So next is to pull the pump from the tank and see just what happened to either my connection to the pump or the pump it self. Funny because the #3 fuse was blown and maybe some things loose with the pump. Have walbro pumps gone bad in just 3,000 mile? I thought this was an indestructible pump but I guess I'll find out.

I've used the Delphi pumps on several cars (2 x 95z, a 97 TA, and others) with no problems. The 1st replacement was on my son's 95z over 2 years ago and 5k+ miles.

Be sure to change the fuel filter (under $15) also.

Keep us posted - good luck.

What is the part number of the Delphi pump that you have been using?
  14. timnfxr

    DELPHI HP10033 Fuel Pump - at rockauto.com ($120).
    ACDELCO GF578 Fuel Filter - at rockauto.com ($12).

If I remember correctly, I received it in 2 days .

Is that an extra filter or the strainer in the tank? Sorry guys for asking still learning!

The pump for a 1994 to 1995 is a HP10033. The pump for a 1996 to 1997 is HP10036 so my car was made at the factory in early Oct 1995. So I bought HP10036 but I'm wondering with all the problems I have been having with fuel pumps (4 all together) is that my Z/28 is an early 1996?
  18. timnfxr

The pumps are the same, except the HP10036 also includes the bucket. So it will be a plug and play swap.
Make sure the connector that plugs into the pump, and the wiring at the connector are in good shape. No bare wires showing.

Let us know how it all works out.

Fuel pump update, the Delphi pump I put in today only made 36 PSI and would not hold pressure. I got it at Autozone and has a life time warranty so looks like they can just keep replacing it unit I get one that works. Installing it is no problem since I cut a hatch in the rear floor for this. You only have to take the fuel tank out once to under stand why, and good thing I did because the next pump will be my fifth time doing this. I still don't understand why GM would put a pump in the tank that lays on it's side that can suck air below 1/4 of a tank.
FYI the Walbor pump that seized cost $159................

Not holding pressure can be isolated to several areas.
    - Leak in the supply line
    - Check ball in the fuel pump
    - Leaky injector(s)
    - Faulty fuel pressure regulator

Since this has been an ongoing issue, I would rule out the causes from the list above, before condemning the new pump. Below is a link to outline the procedure for isolating the cause(s).
